A huge price to pay for "shortcuts"

People generally tend to prefer the easy way out of getting things done, and in most cases have found that the "easy way" turns out to be the most difficult.
I visited the Murtala Muhammed International Airport sometime yesterday, I had seen the person I was looking for, and was about heading out when I saw a lady looking lost and mumbling to herself........

In my usual helpful way, I approached her to find out what the matter was. At first she was reluctant to tell, but had a rethink *possibly thinking I could be of help*....... She went on to narrate how she traveled to South Africa sometime in March, with one of the renowned airlines and while checking in, she was informed that her luggage weighed beyond the stipulated capacity per traveler. The excess baggage was going to cost her quite a bit. The baggage handler then offered to check her in anyway; provided she was willing to offer him something "off record". She asked how much he was requesting, and was delighted to know that it was waaaaaaaayyy below the official rate.

She gave him the money and checked in......... upon arrival in SA, she waited endlessly for her baggage to show up, but it didn't. She complained to the customer service staff and was asked to check again in two days. Two days later, it wasn't there......... Much to her dismay, she realized that she may never get her stuffs.

When she landed in Nigeria yesterday, she went in search of the baggage handler and found him...... he however insisted that he got them all in the plane. Again, she tried to make an official complaint, but was told that there was no official record of her baggage getting on the aircraft.
The handler probably took the bags for himself knowing she would never have a justified case when she realizes that the bags are missing.
It was a sad but insightful situation....... as a traveler, it is always safer to do things as they ought to be done.

Travel tips for today:
Always ensure you have at least an idea of the culture and traditions of your host country......You surely do not want them to see you as "offensive".

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE
